Reproduction of Commercial Processes
The
Research & Development center at Wellman Products has
the means to duplicate all of the processes that are used in our commercial
friction operations.
For the metallic bronze and iron-based parts, we can mix, mold, and sinter functional parts on-site. We can push the limits of the sintering process with ovens and furnaces capable of reaching 1700°C, and in our pressure oven, we can produce the organic HDT material.
For paper applications, our researchers regularly produce test sheets of the friction paper, die cut the needed shape, adhere them to steel cores, and mill in our customer's specified groove pattern. The finished parts can then be used in evaluations.
How do you benefit from this? Clearly, this capability allows us to develop manufacturable materials and provide test lots for optimization evaluations.
We have the capability to continuously improve our materials and processes off-line, so that production schedules are not interrupted by this development work.
R&D production capabilities also allow us to factually define process parameters before a new part or material is brought online, which can save lead-time in actual production process optimization efforts.
